So! What’d you all get in your Gatecrash boxes and fat packs? :D

Gatecrash - What is your first pick and why?

Mind Grind. Duh. It just wins you the game if you hit them for 7 or 8 in the late game. Second pick would be Gift of Orzhova and then third would probably be the Halberdiers or the Keymaster Rogue. Crocanura’s a good pick, too. :P

I don’t normally review magic cards but I want to do this one.

I have a spoiler for all of those who haven’t been catching up on Gatecrash spoilers.

Blind Obedience.

This card is gorgeous. Let me tell you why. :P

Orzhov’s keyword is Extort. Whenever you cast a spell, you can pay a white or a black to make each opponent lose a life, and you gain that much life. There isn’t really a better card to put it on other than this card. (Except maybe a WBB Phyrexian Arena-esque card??) Priced at 1W, on an enchantment, this card is absolutely stellar in standard. It might even see play in Modern. You see, the meta is all aggro and surprises right now.

Dropping this on turn 2 against an aggro deck is a huge slow down for them. It puts you one step ahead of the game for the whole time, given that Red doesn’t deal with enchantments very well. Of course, in Boros, that’s flexible because of white, and Gruul with green, but with Blind Obedience having extort, you are able to play this in a control deck in the mainboard, without having to worry about going up against an aggro deck or not. Because hey, this card is good against most decks. Shuts down Gilded Lotus’ and Thundermaw Hellkites in control decks. Not to mention that no decks can use Restoration Angel for combat shenanigans. (Which, is what I’ve been waiting for.)

Now, in defense of the aggro deck, it isn’t actually hard to deal with, given that you’re prepared. I imagine the Gruul Charm to be a naturalize effect or some sort of destruction card, but I guess I don’t know that. Either way, unless you’re playing monored, you’ll have outs to this card. Erase is a good one, and so is Ray of Revelation. Granted, sometimes you won’t have those. To be fair, sometimes they won’t have Blind Obedience.

I want to see this card get played, and I know it will. And just take a moment to look at that ARTWORK. This card is everything that the Orzhov is. The high kings and rich people, those who are above others in royalty. The ones who collect the taxes and make you pay. This, ladies and gentlemen, is Orzhov.

Welcome to Gatecrash.

I’M GOING TO DO IT.

thelegendofvriska:

I did it. I stayed up and built a deck. I need to make a few cuts and I want to stick a few more cards in but this is what it is so far.
